Criticism For Paris Olympics Organizers Over Video

Must read

The Paris Olympic organizers are facing backlash on social media for sharing a video compilation of the recently concluded games that appears to minimize the achievements of African teams.

Despite African teams winning a total of 38 medals at the Paris Olympics, the video compilation fails to acknowledge any of Africa’s highest achievers.

Kenya emerged as the top African medalist with 11 medals, yet the video overlooks key African medal winners in its recap of the event.

The video was posted on X (formerly Twitter) under the handle @Olympics.

Commenting on the issue, Zollz questioned the absence of prominent African athletes in the video highlights, including Emmanuel Wanyonyi, the youngest winner of the 800 meters in Olympic history, Faith Kipyegon, the first woman to win three Olympic golds in a single track category, Beatrice Cheney, Letsile Tebogo, and several other African athletes who made notable accomplishments.

Echoing similar sentiments, Edwin Chepkindet criticized the video for its apparent partiality, pointing out the omission of Tebogo, Faith Kipyegon, and Beatrice Chebet from the highlights despite their historic achievements.

Chepkindet noted:

“You are so mean and biased, why is Tebogo, Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet not in the highlights yet they made history?”

Expressing disbelief, Gabriel Oguda humorously wondered if there was an issue with his vision as he failed to spot any of the African athletes in the video despite its availability in his location, jokingly considering getting his eyes checked.

Oguda:

“This video is available in my location, but I can’t see any of our athletes. Should I go get my eyes checked?”

There has been no official response from the organizers regarding the criticism.
