The Zambia police has recovered 29.9 kilograms of gold and $200,000 in cash from Chinese nationals traveling in a vehicle with Zimbabwean plates.
The recovery followed a tip-off on Monday, August 12th, leading to the impounding of a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado driven by Zhao Changson and Zhao Yanjing, according to Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba.
The vehicle was searched on Tuesday by a joint police team, uncovering the contraband hidden within the door panels.
The suspects, who claimed ignorance of the hidden items reside in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The operation, dubbed ‘Operation Kutwa’, was part of a coordinated regional effort against transnational organized crime from August 14-16, 2024.
