President Hichilema led family members and other mourners in laying wreaths at Dr. Mwanawasa’s grave. The President arrived at the presidential burial site at 10:30 a.m., where he was welcomed by Lusaka Province Minister Honourable Sheal Mulyata, Youth, Sport, and Art Minister Elvis Nkandu, as well as senior government and military officials.

Dr. Mwanawasa’s mausoleum was adorned with personal items including his accident shirt, Zambia Army military attire, University of Zambia gown, and lawyers’ robe. Following the ceremony, the President proceeded to the Cathedral of the Holy Cross for the funeral procession of the former First Lady, Dr. Maureen Mwanawasa.

Dr. Levy Mwanawasa, who served as Zambia’s third Republican President from 2001 to 2008, was honored in this solemn occasion.
