The Zambia Police’s ongoing search for fugitive parliamentarian Emmanuel Jay Jay Banda yesterday shifted to his Ibex Hill home, Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga confirmed.
Hamoonga said police officers conducted an operation at Banda’s residence as part of an ongoing operation.
“The operation was carried out in line with our mandate to uphold the law and ensure public safety,” he stated.
“At this stage, we wish to emphasize that this action was a routine procedure in the course of the operation. The Zambia Police Service is committed to conducting thorough and impartial investigations in all matters and will provide updates as appropriate when it is safe to do so.”
Banda turned himself into a fugitive from the law when he escaped from a hospital room after undergoing a procedure to correct his hernia while under lawful custody as he awaited to appear before the High Court on aggravated robbery charges.
Meanwhile, his family has cried foul claiming victimization by the police.
According to the account of Banda’s escape from the hospital given by the police, one of Banda’s wives was or should have been the last person to see him. She was subsequently arrested.
