Education Minister Douglas Syakalima has released the results for the 2024 Grade 9 external examinations. Out of 113,193 candidates, 88,548 passed at least one subject. Conversely, 24,645 candidates failed the exam.
Among the 28,310 candidates who took six or more subjects, 7,999 earned certificates. Additionally, 15,440 candidates received statements of results, while 4,871 failed all subjects attempted.
Attendance improved slightly with 6,735 candidates absent, a decrease from 6.41% in 2023 to 0.79% this year.
In the General Certificate of Education (GCE) exams, 120,660 of the 138,084 candidates passed at least one subject. However, 17,424 candidates failed all subjects, marking a 6.48 percentage point increase from the previous year. Among those who sat for five or more subjects, 4,764 earned the GCE, while 756 failed all subjects.
Minister Syakalima assured that the examinations were conducted without leaks, though there were 370 reported cases of suspected malpractice, including 351 individual and 9 center-related cases.
