…Dan Pule, Sean Tembo & Peter Sinkamba shown the door for backing other alliances and disrespect
The United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) has expelled three member presidents for promoting and belonging to other alliances and being disrespectful.
A statement announcing the expulsions, issued by UKA chairperson Sakwiba Sikota, states that UKA member presidents, senior officials, and office bearers were not permitted to join or be members of other political alliances.
Contrary to this position, “a senior colleague and member of the UKA CoP, Apostle Pule” founded the Tonse Alliance, in which he is also a member.
The Tonse Alliance is particularly partial to the candidacy of Edgar Lungu in the 2026 general election. Lungu’s eligibility to contest the polls is still under legal consideration.
Further, Sikota stated that UKA has disassociated itself from Sean Tembo and Peter Sinkamba, who lead the Patriots for Economic Progress and Green Party, respectively, for belonging to the Tonse Alliance. Tembo is additionally alleged to have been disrespectful and undermining fellow council members.
“The objective of UKA is to have a united front in rescuing this country from maladministration and extreme poverty created by the UPND government. A senior colleague and member of the UKA CoP, Apostle Pule of CPD [Christian Democratic Party] brought it to the attention of the Council that he is one of the founder members and office bearer in Tonse Alliance. Consequently, Apostle Pule cannot continue being a member of UKA,” announced Sikota.
He continued, “The purpose of UKA is to reduce the number of political players so that we have a common strategy and the electorate are not overwhelmed by multiplicity of candidates. It is, therefore, wrong for any UKA member to be creating or encouraging multiple political alliances and later on belong to all of them.”
He stated that apart from being the promoter of Tonse Alliance, Tembo had been disrespectful to and undermining fellow Council members.
The expelled trio backs and promotes two other alliances – People’s Pact and Tonse – which favor former president Lungu’s candidature amidst his position to lead UKA not being assured.
