The Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway Project has reached 15% physical progress since its commencement in May 2024.
During a recent media tour, Road Development Agency (RDA) Chief Communications and Corporate Affairs Manager Anthony Mulowa provided updates on the project, highlighting that 2,311 individuals have been employed thus far.
“The project is divided into four sections: from Lusaka to Chibombo, Chibombo to Kapiri Mposhi, Kapiri Mposhi to Ndola, and the Masangano-Fisenge-Luanshya Road. Today’s reported progress specifically pertains to the dual carriageway works from Lusaka to Ndola, excluding the Masangano-Fisenge-Luanshya Road, which we will assess tomorrow,” Mulowa stated.
Employment statistics reveal that 1,104 workers are in general roles, 245 are machine operators, 895 are involved in various construction tasks, 37 hold administrative positions, and 30 are engineers.
The Concession Agreement for upgrading the Lusaka-Ndola Road was signed with MOIC-LN, with a 25-year concession period comprising three years for construction and 22 years for operations and maintenance.
The project aims to upgrade 327 kilometers of road to dual carriageway standards and rehabilitate 45 kilometers of the Masangano-Luanshya Road. Additionally, it includes the construction of approximately 30 kilometers of bypasses in Kabwe and Kapiri-Mposhi, two new toll plazas, a new weighbridge at Kafulafuta, and an upgrade of the existing weighbridge at Kapiri Mposhi. A new bridge will also be constructed at Kafubu Bridge in Ndola.
