The Zambia Air Force (ZAF) has stepped in to assist the National Heart Hospital (NHH) by delivering 300,000 litres of clean water, addressing a critical shortage that threatened the hospital’s operations.
This initiative, part of ZAF’s disaster mitigation efforts, ensured that essential services for cardiac patients remained operational. Dr. Chabwela Shumba, Senior Medical Superintendent and CEO of NHH, expressed gratitude for ZAF’s swift action, stating, “Their timely intervention has saved many patients’ lives and normalized our operations.”
The operation, led by WO1 Bright Musukwa from Logistics Command, was completed efficiently within two days. “We successfully delivered fresh water to the hospital,” he noted, highlighting ZAF’s preparedness in crisis response.
NHH, Zambia’s premier cardiac care facility, relies on a robust hydro system for its water supply. Recently, a significant drop in water levels severely impacted its functions. Following the intervention of Provincial Permanent Secretary Mr. Robert Kamalata, ZAF mobilized quickly to resolve the crisis.
ZAF’s commitment to community service reflects its broader Corporate Social Responsibility goals, underscoring its humanitarian role in supporting the health and well-being of Zambians dependent on specialized care at NHH.
