“A Priest Cannot be an Architect of Confusion”

Must read

By Mabvuto Phiri

I am an ardent and bonafide Catholic since birth, baptized in the church. However, the latest happenings within its rank and file is worrying.

The amount of confusion and failure to respect the law of the land calls for concern that the leadership of the church has seemingly opted to engage in unnecessary altercations and battles in defence and promotion of the hidden agenda of some self-styled individuals.

Firstly, the clergy is supposed to advocate for peace and harmony by upholding and respecting the law of the land rather than advancing anarchy.

A priest cannot be an architect of confusion through the holding of a parallel event to one the state has organized and endorsed by the family. In this case, the tenth memorial service of President Michael Chilufya Sata.

Previously, an event such as the memorial service has been used as a political launch pad like it was last year when former President Edgar Lungu used the occasion to announce his political comeback.

Michael Sata died as a national property and even in death he should be treated as such. Therefore, those advocating for parallel events should take a deep and hard look into the mirror instead of blaming others for their selfish motives.

Even Jesus offered clarity on such matters that we should give to Caeser what belongs to him and to God what belongs to him, a clear affirmation of the need to respect the state while recognizing the existence of God and the Church.

For once, the state should be given a chance to proceed and provide leadership to the function unlike the drama that has characterized the event.
