Empowering Communities, One Solar Panel at a Time

Must read

Today Henry Kapata, Information and Media Director and Spokesperson, visited the construction site of the 121-kilowatt Ntatumbila solar power plant, located 50 kilometers from Nakonde Town. The project is poised to transform the local community.

In collaboration with the Rural Electrification Authority (REA), NRECA International, and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), this solar power initiative is a prime example of how communities can come together to drive sustainable local development.

The Ntatumbila Power Electric Cooperative, which will run the plant, is a community-led effort that will provide clean, renewable energy to over 400 households and small businesses. This project is more than just a power source—it’s a beacon of hope, opportunity, and empowerment for the region.

The benefits of the solar power plant are far-reaching. First, it will create much-needed jobs for local residents, boosting the economy and providing long-term employment. Healthcare services in the area will also see significant improvements, as reliable electricity will enable local clinics to offer better medical care, ultimately saving lives and enhancing health outcomes.

The project will also transform education in the region, with schools gaining access to computers, the internet, and other digital tools, which will greatly enhance learning opportunities for students. Additionally, businesses will benefit from reliable power, allowing them to operate more efficiently and create new economic opportunities.

This initiative underscores the power of community-led development and demonstrates the significant impact of partnerships and collaboration in advancing local progress and sustainability.
