The Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) says more teachers will be recruited by the government beyond 2024.
TCZ Registrar Dr. Ebby Mubanga has reassured those applicants who may not be selected in this year’s recruitment that they will still be employed as the government does not intend to stop recruiting more teachers in the country.
“For those who may have graduated this year, their turn is definitely coming next year because I am sure the government is not stopping here,” Mubanga said today when he appeared on Diamond TV.
Mubanga further revealed that the TCZ is actively part of the ongoing 2024 recruitment process by providing the nationwide teachers’ database, which is the yardstick for selection.
“We have been part of the teacher recruitment process. Even for the database that we’ve used for the past few years, the TCZ has been a part of it by propagating that database for teachers,” he said.
He said the TCZ nationwide teachers’ database is a critical component in the recruitment process as it guides the government and other stakeholders in selecting the most suitable applicants.
“This database is a reference point that is very helpful for decision-making and planning on the part of the government,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mubanga says the Council will continue supporting the government and its efforts to recruit more teachers to bring the teacher-pupil ratio to an acceptable proportion.
“As a Council, we shall always support these efforts by the government especially since we are looking for teachers that are well qualified, registered, professional, and are ready to serve anywhere,” he said.
The government has announced its intentions to recruit an additional 4,200 teachers in 2024, bringing the total number of teachers so far employed under the New Dawn administration to more than 12,000.
