ZESCO & Warriors Battle For Top Spot as Nkana Aims to Bounce Back From Midweek Defeat

Must read

Zesco United, the nine-time league winners’ stay at the summit of the table comes under threat this afternoon as they host an in-form “Magnificent People’s Team” while Nkana return to Kitwe in search of three points in Week 14 of the FAZ MTN Super League.

The Ndola-based outfit currently sit at the top of the Super League table with 26 points and will look to protect their lead against Warriors who are third but just a point behind with a real chance to grab top spot after today.

In other Week 14 fixtures to be played today, Nkana aim to bounce back from the 1-0 mid-week defeat to Zanaco as they host Green Buffaloes in Kitwe today.

Both sides head into today’s fixture on the back of losses with Buffaloes having also succumbed to a 2-1 loss at home to Nkwazi on Wednesday.

Kalampa have the chance grab 5th place which is currently held by Buffaloes as victory could take them up to 22 points to be in contention for a spot in the ABSA Cup.

Week 14 league action continues on Sunday when second-placed Power Dynamos continue their search for supremacy as they face Nkwazi at Nkoloma Stadium.

Sitting in second place with 25 points, Power have a realistic chance of topping the table with victory but will be up against a tricky Nkwazi side that has the meanest defence having conceded just 6 goals this season.

Power will also have to wait for the outcome of the Zesco and Warriors encounter which they hope does not produce a winner to have a clear way to the summit.

Defending champions Red Arrows face the youthful Athletico Lusaka in an interesting capital city derby later on Sunday at Nkoloma Stadium.

Arrows have been underwhelming this season and are desperate for maximum points to rise from their unusual and current 8th position on the table.

In Choma, Green Eagles welcome relegation-threatened Zanaco who will look to replicate last Wednesday’s impressive 1-0 home win over Nkana.

The Bankers find themselves in an unsafe 15th position on the table with 13 points and could swim out of the relegation waters with victory but have to defy the odds once again as they confront 4th placed Eagles who are yet to record a loss at the Independence Stadium this season.
