I saw a video of an interview featuring Kelvin Bwalya Fube (KBF), President of a political formation whose name I can’t remember, but certainly a prominent individual in Zambia’s recent politics, especially of the unsavoury kind.
In it, he compares Presidents Hichilema and Lungu.
Very passionately, Mr Fube makes the suggestion that President Lungu is a better leader for Zambia because he is likeable, his likeability coming from the fact that he readily gives out money. What ever else the 6th President may have done wrong, he says, it is important to understand that he is generous.
About President Hichilema, KBF states – wakaso. He can’t even give you 2 ngwee, he says, sounding like he is making a most profound and revealtory point .
Mr Fube goes on to state that EL’s likeability means he, or anyone he supports, would easily beat HH in an election.
Listening to Mr Fube make his pitch, I thought sadly that, in his words, was represented much that makes Zambia the politically and socially broken space it is right now.
That a leader’s qualities should be judged on his ability to give out money to individuals, is such a sick mindset.
Mr Fube, here is my question – how many of 20 million people can ever be in the President’s generosity sphere, in order to receive money?
I mean let’s be fair, if we are going to talk about money, hasn’t HH done more than most Presidents before him? Hasn’t CDF, Social Cash Transfer and the drought relief provided systematic access to financial resources to citizens right across the country, or does that not count?
You want the President to give out money from his back pocket. The kind cadres burn on mbabulas???
Oookay!
