Ineligible Lungu Turns to “Plan B”

Must read

Former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu says he is set to activate “Plan B” following the Constitutional Court’s judgement declaring him ineligible to contest the 2026 general elections.

Earlier today, the Constitutional Court concluded the lengthy eligibility case and determined that Lungu was ineligible to run for president again, having served two terms as prescribed by Article 106 (3) of the Constitution.

However, Lungu says he remains determined to be on the ballot for a third term and will usher in a new mechanism to overturn the Constitutional Court’s verdict.

In a statement issued today to respond to the Constitutional Court’s judgment, Lungu said he has been granted a new will to contest the law and make it on the ballot for the next elections.

“My fellow countrymen and women, know that from this blatant manipulation and disenfranchisement, a new resolve is born. Democracy, my fellow citizens, is not merely a system of governance but the lifeblood of our national identity. And, therefore, today, I declare that Plan B has been set in motion and Plan B shall legally fight to defeat and win for Zambians. Trust me, I, in the spirit of democracy and Zambians, shall win in and with Plan B,” Lungu declared in a statement issued on his official Facebook page.

He added that he intends fight for democracy using his new “Plan B”, which according to him is based on giving Zambians the will to make decisions on critical matters.

“Plan B is rooted in the principle that democracy must prevail as a reality for every citizen of this land. Plan B is based on the enduring ideal that power must always reside with the people. Plan B will prove that no machination can extinguish the power of the Zambian people and that institutions must serve the public, not the ambitions of a few,” he wrote.
