“We Are Certified Healers” – Witchcraft Accused Duo Claims

Must read

Two men accused of attempting to harm President Hakainde Hichilema through witchcraft have confessed to owning charms, but claim they are certified traditional healers, not witchdoctors.

Jasten Mabulesse Candude, a Mozambican national, and Leonard Phiri, 43, of Sinda District, appeared before the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court, denying any wrongdoing.

The duo’s alleged mission was to use charms to harm the Republican President with an initial payment of K16,500 made as part of a K2 million deal.

However, they claim their work is legitimate, with Candude stating he had documents from Topaz and Mozambique to support his traditional healing practice.

Phiri, who also claims to be a certified traditional healer, stated that he was certified by a Mr. Abraham.

The accused face charges under the Witchcraft Act of “professing knowledge of witchcraft” and “possession of charms.”

Police preliminary investigations revealed that they were hired by Nelson Banda, who is the younger brother of former Petauke Member of Parliament who Emmanuel Jay Banda, who has become a fugitive. The younger Banda is also now on the run.

According to the police report, the two suspects were found in possession of assorted charms, including a live chameleon.

Magistrate Fines Mayambu has adjourned the matter to January 20, leaving the nation eagerly awaiting the outcome.
