The Economic and Financial Crimes Court (EFCC) has rejected Tasila Lungu’s application to stay the forfeiture of her K8 million farm to the state.
Tasila, daughter of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, sought to block the enforcement of the judgment pending her appeal to the Court of Appeal.
The EFCC panel, comprising Judges Susan Wanjelani, Pixie Yangailo, and Vincent Siloka, ruled that Tasila’s appeal lacked “exceptional circumstances” and held no “prospects of success”.
“Having perused through the grounds of appeal exhibited, it is our firm view that the grounds of appeal do not disclose any prospects of success especially taking into account the facts and the authorities cited in the judgement being appealed against,” court stated.
The Court in its judgement dated September 17, ordered f
the forfeiture of the farm located in Sinda district of Eastern Province stating that its acquisition and development was through proceeds of crime.
Last month, the Court of Appeal allowed Tasila to contest the judgement.
