‘We Feel We Can Bring It Home’ — Nyirenda Confident Chipolopolo Can Clinch CHAN Title

Must read

Zambia’s locally based national team head coach Wedson Nyirenda has expressed optimism his side can go all the way to lift the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament this year.

Chipolopolo have intensified preparations in Lusaka ahead of the 2024 CHAN tournament to be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda next month with Nyirenda satisfied with the team’s showing so far in camp.

“We want to thank you for showing your support to the team and we can assure you that the boys are doing very well,” Nyirenda told FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga who visited the team in training today.

Nyirenda has disclosed that the CHAN-bound Chipolopolo squad has so far exhibited the much desired character to be able to lift the title at the continental competition.

“The discipline and commitment is so high as you have seen, everybody is so committed to this cause and they say there is always a first time to everything and we feel we can bring it home, we are determined to do just that,” he said.

The former main national team gaffer further called for collaboration and support from FAZ and other stakeholders in order for the team to be victorious at the 2024 CHAN tournament.

“If we put the heads together [we can bring it home], I know as the executive you are going to help us to secure one or two friendlies outside and I think that will work miracles for us,” he said.

Chipolopolo will next week on Wednesday learn their group stage opponents at the 2024 CHAN when CAF conducts the draws for the tournament to run from the 1st to the 28th of February, 2025.
