The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has taken Reliable Utilities Zambia Limited (RUZ) to court, demanding the delivery of 6,800 Kopa-branded football match balls and payment of K500,000 in royalty fees.
According to court documents filed in the High Court, FAZ and RUZ entered into a contract in November 2023, outlining a strategic partnership for the supply of FIFA-tested and certified official match and training balls.
However, FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga claims that RUZ has failed to fulfill its contractual obligations.
RUZ was required to supply 7,000 Kopa-branded football match balls but has only delivered 200, leaving a shortfall of 6,800 balls.
RUZ has also allegedly failed to pay the K500,000 royalty fee and account for any sponsorship revenue earned.
FAZ is seeking remedies, including payment of the outstanding royalty fee, delivery of the remaining footballs, damages for breach of contract, and an order compelling RUZ to account for sponsorship revenue. FAZ has also requested that RUZ cover legal costs
