Nkana Tops MTN Super League After Late Victory Over Mutondo; Power Dynamos Stumble Again

Must read

Kitwe giants Nkana have climbed to the top of the MTN Super League table after scoring two late goals to beat Mutondo Stars 2-0 at Nkana Stadium in a Week 19 fixture played this afternoon.

In a dramatic end to the encounter, Congolese striker Idris Mbombo scored twice in the 88th and 90th minutes to ensure victory for Mwenya Chipepo’s side against 10-man Mutondo.

With eight wins in their last nine matches, Nkana has shot to the top of the table with 33 points.

In Lusaka, Power Dynamos succumbed to a 3-2 defeat inflicted by Red Arrows at Nkoloma Stadium.

Congolese midfielder Ciel Ebengo came off the bench to deliver the winning goal for the defending champions in the nick of time, adding to the goals earlier scored by Angel Lubamba and Derrick Bulaya.

Defender John Soko and Owen Tembo found the back of the net for Power, who have now gone winless in their last five matches.

Power has since dropped into 6th place with 29 points, while Arrows are 3rd with 33 points.

Elsewhere, Kabwe Warriors rallied to an important 1-0 win over Nchanga Rangers to move into second place on the league table.

A thunderous strike in the first half by defender Charles Sichilima was enough to secure victory for the Warriors, who have pushed up to 2nd with 33 points.

Mufulira Wanderers were the biggest winners of the day, thrashing FC MUZA 4-1 at Shinde Stadium to continue their fine run.

Wanderers have moved up to 9th with 27 points following a turnaround in fortunes since Tenant Chilumba took charge.

Meanwhile, Zanaco’s Super League status remains under threat following their latest 2-0 defeat at Forest Rangers today.

Goals from Quadri Kola and Benson Kolala sank the Bankers at Dolahill Stadium, with the seven-time league winners now sitting two places above the bottom of the table.
