Businessman Valden Findlay has made an urgent application to the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court to release his passport, citing the need for immediate medical attention abroad.
Findlay’s lawyer, Milner Katolo, informed Magistrate Sylvia Munyinya that his client’s kidney is collapsing and requires urgent medical care.
Findlay, who has pleaded not guilty to charges of holding more than one passport, was initially scheduled to appear in court for a mention and the fixing of defense dates.
However, due to the emergency nature of his medical condition, Katolo requested that the court allow Findlay to withdraw his filed application and make a new oral application.
The state objected to this request, arguing that the application should be made through an affidavit sworn by Findlay, allowing the state time to respond.
After some deliberation, the court adjourned the matter until February 14, 2025, for a mention and the fixing of defense dates, with the ruling on Findlay’s application to be made on Monday, February 3.
