UPND Satisfied with Ongoing Voting Process in Petauke

Must read

The ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) says it is satisfied with the orderly manner under which voting has been conducted so far in the ongoing Petauke Central parliamentary by-election.

UPND Secretary General Batuke Imenda has inspected eight polling stations in the constituency and expressed the ruling party’s satisfaction with the ongoing electoral process.

Speaking to the media after visiting one of the polling stations this afternoon, Imenda noted that the residents of Petauke had been casting their votes in a peaceful and undisturbing environment.

“As the Secretary General of United Party for National Development, I am very much impressed, despite the apathy, with both the turnout and the peaceful environment which people are enjoying when exercising their right to vote,” Imenda said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Local Government Gary Nkombo, who is UPND chairperson for elections, has expressed optimism that the ruling party’s candidate Severino Lungu will emerge victorious in today’s polls.

“As UPND we are optimistic that our candidate will carry the day, but we will also accept the outcome of the results as the best candidate carries the day,” Nkombo said.

Having opened at exactly 06:00 hours this morning, voting has continued in Petauke and is expected to close at 18:00 hours across all polling stations in the constituency.
