In a significant ceremony, 1,373 recruits graduated from the Zambia Police Training College in Lilayi, Lusaka, as Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Honourable Jack Mwiimbu, urged them to restore the Zambia Police Service’s reputation.
Addressing the Pass Out Parade, Mwiimbu acknowledged public concerns over perceptions of corruption and indiscipline within the force. “As new officers, it is your duty to redeem the good image of the Police Service,” he said, emphasizing the importance of serving the community with honor and dignity.
While recognizing challenges posed by a few “bad eggs” in the police, Mwiimbu expressed confidence in the professionalism of the majority of officers. He called on the Inspector General to take decisive action against misconduct within the ranks.
Inspector General of Police, Mr. Graphel Musamba, expressed gratitude to the New Dawn Administration for bolstering human resources, stating that the new recruits will help address the policing gap created by the growing population.
Divisional Commander Deputy Commissioner Godfrey Mwanza highlighted the need for improved training methods to tackle evolving crime trends. “The Zambia Police Service is crucial in upholding justice, professional policing, and community relations,” he noted, reaffirming the commitment to develop a highly skilled police force ready to meet future challenges.
