A joint operation between the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) and local police has led to the investigation of a Chongwe-based company suspected of manufacturing unsafe herbal medicines.
ZAMRA Senior Public Relations Officer Ludovic Mwape confirmed that three individuals have been arrested in connection with the illegal operation. The raid resulted in the seizure of over 100 containers of herbal medicines, which are being examined for safety concerns.
The herbal products, marketed by the company, are claimed by sellers to cure various ailments, including AIDS and cancer. Authorities have warned the public against consuming these unregulated medicines until their safety can be assured.
