Newly appointed Copper Queens coach Nora Häuptle says she aims to improve the Copper Queens’ style of play and consistency levels while in charge.
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has officially presented Häuptle as the new head coach for the women’s national team during an unveiling held at the Taj Pamodzi Hotel today.
The 41-year-old Swiss trainer has officially begun her tenure after signing a three-year deal to be in charge of the Copper Queens until 2028.
Tasked with leading the Copper Queens to a maiden WAFCON title and World Cup qualification,
“I think the development steps from the teams are visible, but now, when you are in the big tournaments, it is about how you beat the top 20 nations, and you want to do it regularly,” she said.
Häuptle says she is taking over a solid Copper Queens side, which she intends to work on strengthening even further.
“We have strengths that lead us to tournaments, like transitions, but we need to make it even better and also try to improve in some areas where we have been weak,” she said.
Häuptle had been in charge of Ghana for two years prior to her appointment as the Copper Queens’ trainer earlier this month.
Meanwhile, FAZ has attached former junior girls’ national team coaches Charles Haalubono and Enala Simbeye to the Copper Queens’ technical bench as first and second assistant coaches to Häuptle, respectively.
